Lea van der Merwe finished third, her sister, Ame finished 11th, our Ladies Club Champion, Phenyo Sebata finished 14th and her sister, Mogomotsi Sebata finished 21st.
As already mentioned, Jason Cook won the Long Driving Challenge on Wednesday with a 380-metre drive that finished on the 10th green!

Marco Anderson won the Putting Challenge on Thursday – he scored 9. Brent Goodard won the Chipping Contest (nearest to the hole).

Congratulations to Ruan Jooste for winning the first Golf Management Campus 72-hole Strokeplay tournament of the year. Extra special is that two of his four rounds were under 70 – and his overall score was seven shots better than this time last year!
Congratulations to Ryan de Jonge from the Golf Management Campus whose hard work on the range, both with his coaches and practising alone, has paid off. He made the cut and finished tied for 48th in the Cape Province Open at George Golf Club – his first big tournament event.

We wish him luck for his next two events – the North West Open at Potch Golf Club and the Northern Amateur at CCJ.
Karen Graaff broke 50 for the first time, in a nine-hole round with Debbie du Plessis. She has made slow, but steady progress, after working hard on improving her game. She attends Practice Club as well as the Adult Group classes with Justin Godfrey and Elsabe Hefer.
Congratulations to Jontey Kotze who won the SADGA’s Provincial Day at Copperleaf. He is also one of seven South African players to be selected to play in the Blind World Champs, which will be played at Milnerton in September. Well-done, Jontey!
Repeating his success from last year, Adam Lowther won the GMC’s first strokeplay competition of the year. He shot a 69 last Friday and was bogey-free. Well done Adam!
Congratulations to Curtley Roberts on making the South African Disabled Golf Association’s Inter-Provincial Team, which will compete in the upcoming North vs South tournament. Curtley has been coached by Justin Godfrey over the last year and is making great strides in his game.
Matthew Bennet is just 13 years old and yet he should be an inspiration to us all. He only started playing golf last April and is already down to a 5-handicap!

He takes private lessons with Elsabe, who is quick to point out that Matthew is extremely passionate about the game. He just loves everything about it and while he is putting in the time to practice, he’s having so much fun doing it.
Last year Ceanon van Aardt joined us to do the Sports Turf Manaintenance course. He was a beginner golfer and in just over 10 months he managed to get down to a 4 handicap. With the assistance of our Head Teaching professional Elsabe Hefer, he was able to show us what determination and hard work can do!

Cathie Markus is enjoying her golf again!

Cathie Markus hadn’t played golf in around 12 years until Elsabe got in touch with her via email during August, and encouraged her to come down for a free assessment.

Since then she’s undergone an assessment and had a few private lessons with Elsabe.

Well done to Cathie for her determination to get back into golf and to Elsabe on igniting the fire!

“I’m really enjoying being involved with golf again and determined to get better. Thanks so much for your initiative and help getting me enthused again!”

This week’s Hero is Melanie Potgieter…

Melanie has been playing golf for around a year now. Over the last little while she has regularly attended our Adult Group Classes and Practice Club sessions. She broke 100 for the first time last Saturday.

Well done Melanie! We can’t wait to see your progress, and hope you continue to have fun out on the course.

This week’s Hero is Ryno Naude…

Ryno came and chatted to Ian about a new set of irons. He got Ryno onto the driving range and fitted him with a set of Srixon irons.

Before the fitting, Ryno was shooting in the mid to low 80s. The next six games after his fitting, his scoring was reduced to the mid to high 70s.

He is hitting the ball better that ever but more importantly is enjoying his golf.

Congrats to our super-star juniors – we are so proud of them…

Christiaan Mouton (third from left in group photo), was a part of the winning Super 12 League while Leander Wentzel, Wandre Snyman and Andre Makkink all made the Gauteng North Primary School golf team.

Congrats to Ruan De Bruin from Zwartkop High School

"Morning Justin, I just want to thank you for the effort you put into Ruan’s golf. He got the trophy for Junior Golf Player of the Year last night!"

Well-played Michelle!

We love that Michelle acknowledges Elsabe’s role in her golf game’s improvement.

Dear Elsabe,

Thank you so much for the lesson today, it was great for all of us to meet you. Even though you changed significant aspects of my grip and back-swing, I played a 97 today - my personal best. We will contact you for some follow up lessons soon, your coaching today made a huge difference. Thank you so much.

Michelle Clarke

This could be you...

Yvonne Mitchell started out attending our Practice Club sessions and then took a few individual lessons with Elsabe Hefer.

Sallie Herbst hits it straighter and further!

A couple of weeks ago Ian did an assessment with Sallie Herbst. Sallie was having trouble with his driver and during the assessment Ian noticed that although Sallie had an M4 driver which was set at the correct loft, he was still hitting the ball high and to the right.
